The Heirloom Cooking School: What's To Come
If you’ve ever wished you could bottle up the smell of Sunday supper at Grandma’s house, or learn the secrets behind the kind of meals that make folks slow down and stay awhile, then we’ve got something special cookin’ just for you.

Tucked in the heart of downtown Laurel, the Heirloom Cooking School is getting ready to open its doors—and it’s bringing with it a whole lot more than just recipes. It’s bringing stories, traditions, and the kind of hospitality that’s been passed down through generations, one well-loved dish at a time.
This isn’t your typical culinary class. At The Heirloom, we believe that food should feel like home. Whether you grew up on iron-skillet cornbread or slow-simmered tomato gravy, or you're just now learning what “a pinch of this and a smidge of that” means—there’s a seat at the table for you here.

What to Expect
Each week, local chefs and others from all over will come to our little corner of Mississippi to share their culinary roots and personal traditions. From Southern comfort food to rustic Italian family fare, every class is an invitation to experience something real, something made with love (and probably butter).
And this isn’t just for seasoned home cooks. Whether you barely know your way around a biscuit cutter or you’ve got a signature gumbo, our classes are designed to make everyone feel welcome and capable—and to leave with something delicious to show for it.
Perfect for:
-
Girls’ night out with your besties (we’ll handle the dishes)
-
A date night that’s more than just dinner
-
Birthday parties that come with aprons instead of hats
-
Or just a special night out when you’re visiting Laurel and want to do something you’ll remember (and taste) for years to come
A Taste of What’s to Come
As we get ready to open our doors, we thought we’d give you a little peek into the kinds of recipes you might learn to make:
🥄 Mal's Famous Jambalaya – smoky, spicy, and full of heart; this one-pot wonder is perfect for feeding a crowd or freezing for later.

🥄 Homemade Biscuits & Gravy – tender, flaky biscuits with creamy sausage gravy that tastes like Saturday morning at Grandma’s house.

🥄 Southern Italian Stuffed Shells – a nod to our Southern roots and our Italian soul, these shells are filled with herbed ricotta, nestled in a slow-simmered tomato sauce, and topped with melty cheese.

🥄 Oven-Baked Pork Chops – juicy, golden-brown, and seasoned just right. These are the kind of pork chops that get passed around the table with second helpings and smiles.

And of course, there will be sweets, surprises, and stories along the way. You’ll leave with a full belly, a few new tricks up your sleeve, and maybe even a new favorite recipe to add to your own family collection.
